LivingInBaku: Mr. Sanan, thank you very much for your warm welcome. Art has been in the daily life of peoples in Azerbaijan for the past. There are so many works that has become classics in specially music, paint, sculpture, poetry and literature. What about photography's past? And how did you find your interest in it?
Sanan Aleskerov: My father and my brother are painters. My father worked for years in a newspaper as political cartoonist. Although I had interest in painting, a photography magazine I bought in 1976 changed my life. There were works of photographers in that magazine. I don't remember the name of the magazine now but I looked over and over to that magazine for 2 years. It was then when I said to myself I have to become a photographer. Photographer equaled reporter those times. Every photographer was a reporter. That's why I studied news reportage in university and than worked as a reporter for 2 years. In those times, you were able to improve yourself as a reporter. You were more free. I never had problems photographing anything, which is not quite possible now.
LivingInBaku: How did you get your first camera?
Sanan Aleskerov: My mother gifted my first camera to me prior of me going to military service. It was a FED known as Leica of Russians. I started using this camera after 2 years returning back from military.
